Daytona Wins Florida State League Title

The Cubs downed St. Lucie Sunday night at Digital Domain Stadium, 4-2, to complete a sweep and capture their first Florida State League title since 2008 and fifth overall.

Logan Watkins RBI single in the sixth inning snapped a 2-2 tie. Mike Brenly followed with a sacrifice fly to give Daytona a two-run bulge in a game that it trailed 2-1. Greg Rohan finished with three hits and an RBI while Justin Bour added two hits and an RBI.

Dae-Eun Rhee earned the victory despite allowing both runs over six innings. Aaron Kurcz pitched shutout ball over the seventh and eighth before Frank Batista closed things out with a perfect ninth.
WHITE SOX Birmingham AA
Charles Shirek was brilliant on the mound while Brandon Short took care of matters at the plate Sunday afternoon for Birmingham in a 7-1 victory over Mobile at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The victory knotted the Southern League semifinal series at two games apiece with the deciding fifth game slated for Monday night in Mobile. The winner of Mondays game will face Tennessee for the Southern League title.

Shirek scattered eight hits over seven innings, allowing only one run. Leyson Septimo and Tyson Corley each pitched a no-hit inning to close out the BayBears.

Short, meanwhile, had a double and a triple and tied a season-high with four RBIs. Tyler Kuhn added a pair of hits while Jon Gilmore, Chris Marrero and Alden Carrithers each drove in runs.
