Wringing out the notebook heading into a weekend with Saturday’s practice at Soldier Field, “Comcast Bears Family Fest” presented by Chase:

 2’s company, 3’s a crowd, so 7,000 would be….

Officials placed Thursday’s crowd at more than 7,000, pushing the overall attendance to more than 37,000 for the first six days of practice. …

* Marc Trestman’s successor as coach of the Montreal Alouettes, Dan Hawkins, was fired on Thursday after the team started 2-3. Trestman coached the Alouettes to two Grey Cup championships in his five seasons there and he was saddened by the day’s developments.

“I know Dan very well,” Trestman said. “He’s a friend of mine. … “I’m disappointed for Dan and trust that [general manager] Jim Popp will do what’s in the best interests of his team. … I love the players there, they’re family and they’re 2-3 and in first place so we’ll see what happens over the course of the season.” ….

With Lance Briggs given the day off, first-year-Bear James Anderson and rookie Jon Bostic were the Bears’ linebackers in the nickel package. …

Shuffling continued on the offensive line, where only center Roberto Garza and injured left tackle Jermon Bushrod have played only those positions. On Thursday there was right tackle J’Marcus Webb moving over to left tackle and fill-in Eben Britton going to right, as coaches continue auditioning for not only the starting five, but also to prepare for in-season eventualities requiring changes….
