In need of depth at defensive tackle with Henry Melton going on injured reserve with a knee injury, the Bears signed former Detroit Lion Landon Cohen on Friday.

Cohen, 6-1, 300 pounds, has appeared in 27 games with five starts since being drafted by the Detroit Lions and then-coach Rod Marinelli in 2008. Cohen was with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2010 where he played for Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker. He played for New England (2010-11) and Dallas this year, where Marinelli is defensive line coach, recording 32 tackles.
Because of his familiarity with Tucker and defensive systems similar to the Bears’, Cohen could be active as early as this Sunday. The Bears also have undrafted rookie free agent Zach Minter available at defensive tackle.
