Bears tight end Martellus Bennett is known for his fun-loving, jovial attitude. That changed when asked about Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather.

Bennett joined the "Boers and Bernstein" show on WSCR-AM for his weekly appearance on Monday night.

The conversation quickly turned serious when Bennett was asked about Meriweather’s actions during Sunday’s loss to the Redskins.

“He’s a scumbag,” Bennett said. ”… I still want to punch him in the face.”

The Redskins safety was suspended for two games by the NFL for illegal hits on wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery.

In his Meriweather’s lone season with the Bears in 2011, the former Pro Bowler was fined for a helmet-to-helmet hit and an unnecessary roughness penalty.

Bennett also chided Meriweather for his comments after the game.

“But then there’s a way not to do it, where you’re deliberately hitting guys (high,) or after the game you’re saying, ‘Oh, I’ve got to pay,’ because you know what you did was wrong when you were doing it. Then it just becomes wrong.”

The Bears are currently in their bye week. Their next game is Monday, Nov. 4 against the Green Bay Packers.
