With Armando Allen day-to-day with a hamstring injury the Bears signed running back Curtis Brinkley to a one-year deal and waived wide receiver Marcus Rucker.
Brinkley appeared in 10 games with the San Diego Chargers in 2012, rushing for 115 yards and hauling in 12 passes for 77 yards. In three years with San Diego, Brinkley compiled 227 rushing yards with one touchdown and added 19 receptions for 118 yards. The 28-year-old Brinkley was signed by the Chargers in 2010 after going undrafted out of Syracuse University.
He will compete with Allen and Michael Ford for the No. 3 running back spot behind Matt Forte and Michael Bush.
Brinkley's first game action with the Bears will come against his former team Thursday night at Soldier Field.
