Andre Williams (RB), Boston College
5'11" | 230 lbs.
355 CAR, 2177 YDS, 18 TD
4th Round, 113th pick (New York Giants)
What the scouts are saying:
"Very strong, stocky, powerful runner with the instincts, contact balance and toughness to carry a heavy workload. Really emerged as a senior, when he led the nation in rushing, and proved worthy of a starting role." (Nolan Nawrocki, NFL.com)
"Williams is thickly-built with terrific balance to pick up yards after contact, lowering his pads and driving forward for every yard he can gain." (Dane Brugler, CBSSports.com)
"A team looking for a running back to compliment a more dynamic running back could find Williams to be a valuable acquisition in the middle rounds. He's a nice player, but not a starter." (NFLDraftGeek.com)
Fit for the Bears:
The Bears are thin at running back outside of Matt Forte. Last year's undrafted free agent, Michael Ford, is currently penciled in as the No. 2 running back on Chicago's depth chart. The Bears also added veteran back Shaun Draughn on a one-year deal this offseason. General manager Phil Emery could use a late-round pick to shore up depth at the position. However, Andre Williams is expected to be taken by the end of the third-round, and the Bears have far greater needs on the defensive side of the ball than opting for a luxury pick like Williams.
