The Jacksonville Jaguars selected quarterback Blake Bortles with the No. 3 overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, making him the quintessential home-state hero. Bortles, a native of Oviedo, Florida, was a standout high school athlete who went on to attend college at the University of Central Florida.
At an NFL pre-draft event on Thursday, USC wide receiver Marqise Lee had fun and posed as a reporter, asking how Bortles would feel if he was the first quarterback drafted. Bortles responded with a laugh saying he was more interested in where Lee would end up. Both seemingly enjoying the idea of potentially being teammates for the foreseeable future. The laugh they both shared hinted that their chemistry was already present, giving the idea of the great things they could potentially accomplish together at the next level.
And wouldn't you know it, Lee ended up being the second round selection of the Jaguars on Friday night, giving these two rookies an opportunity to grow their careers with each other and hopefully lift the Jacksonville organization to new heights.
