Earlier this month, the Wisconsin athletics department released a statement describing Corey Clement's involvement in an off-campus altercation that resulted in him cutting his hand.
Wednesday, Madison police revealed the incident in question played out far differently than the Badgers described, and Clement received two citations for disorderly conduct, details published by the Wisconsin State Journal.
Back on Nov. 12, Wisconsin's statement said that Clement was trying to break up an argument between a security guard and a group of people and that he and the security guard were assaulted by those people, resulting in the injury to the junior running back's hand.

The police report described things much differently, saying that Clement instigated an altercation in an elevator with a group of men and one woman, using "derogatory and sexually explicit language" toward the woman and throwing the first punch in a fight that spilled out of the elevator.
"I told Clement that a review of the video showed that his assertion that he was defending himself was not reflected in the video," Madison police detective Joel Peterson says in the report, as published by the State Journal. "I told Clement that it was clear that it was his actions that caused the verbal argument to continue, and that it was his actions that initiated the physical disturbance."

The release of the police report and Clement's citations forced another statement from Wisconsin.

"We were informed (Tuesday) by Madison Police that Corey Clement was cited for two counts of disorderly conduct for his role in an incident on Nov. 8. When we first became aware of this incident, we knew this was a possibility.
"We released a statement regarding Corey’s involvement in the incident on Nov. 12 in response to false information that was circulating. That statement was based off of information that we had at that time.
"With the release of the full police report today, further details on the incident have come to light. Any disciplinary measures taken by UW head coach Paul Chryst relating to this incident are undetermined at this time and will be handled internally."

Clement has had a rough season any way you look at it. He tried to play through a sports hernia suffered in the summer and was able to carry the ball just eight times in a season-opening loss to Alabama. He sat out the next couple games before opting to have surgery to repair the injury, sitting out a total of seven games before returning in a win over Rutgers, carrying the ball 11 times for 115 yards and three touchdowns. Still bothered by the injury, he sat out the next game before returning to the field last weekend and carrying the ball 10 times for 24 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Northwestern.
And now what initially looked like a freak occurrence away from the field now has more serious implications.
He obviously envisioned things going much differently this year, telling reporters Tuesday that he had planned to leave for the NFL Draft after his junior season, assuming it would go well. But missing so much time will likely bring him back for a fourth season next year.
