CALGARY, Alberta -- Antti Raanta gets the start, Bryan Bickell gets back in the lineup and Brandon Pirri gets another shot at second-line center when the Chicago Blackhawks face the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.
Bickell was a healthy scratch for the first time this season on Sunday night. It was obviously frustrating for him -- he's struggled throughout the season, especially coming off his left-knee injury from November -- and admits he needs to channel the anger and frustration on the ice.
"It was frustrating but as my game’s been going, I feel like I deserved to sit out," Bickell said. "(Coach Joel Quenneville) wants to get me angry and mad on the ice and bring the physical game."
Pirri, who was recalled from Rockford on Monday, will play his first game with the Blackhawks since Dec. 3; he was sent back to the IceHogs shortly after that. Quenneville said Pirri made "in roads" in his defensive game in his last stint here, and wants him to build off that.
"He progressed that he was aware of his responsibilities, the team game," Quenneville said. "We expect him to be cognizant of how he has to play withtout the puck."
For Raanta, this is the site of his first NHL start back on Nov. 27; he stopped 20 of 22 shots in the Blackhawks' 3-2 victory over the Flames.
Michal Rozsival will draw in as the Blackhawks' sixth defenseman tonight. Michal Handzus is out; Quenneville said he's just giving the veteran center "a break."
