Next Monday some of Chicago's best athletes will come together, raise money and be honored at the 26th annual Comcast SportsNet Awards presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield Illinois, benefiting March of Dimes. It's one of the best days of the year, and 2014 will be no different. On Feb. 10, Chicago athletes expected to be in attendance representing their respective teams include the Bulls' Nazr Mohammed, Cubs catcher Welington Castillo, White Sox reliever Nate Jones, 2013 MLS MVP Mike Magee and Bears tight end Martellus Bennett. Blackhawks left wing Patrick Sharp will be in Sochi preparing for the 2014 Olympics but will have a video acceptance speech.
Blackhawks legend Stan Mikita will receive a lifetime achievement award, but the most important award of the night will go to an amateur.
The Inspirational Athlete Award -- which, beginning this year, will be renamed the Jim Corno Sr. Inspirational Athlete Award to honor CSN's late president -- will go to 18-year-old Alyssa Gialamas of Naperville. Gialamas competed in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London and is preparing to compete in the 2016 Games in Rio.
You can purchase tickets to the event by calling the March of Dimes office at 312-596-4721 or by visiting this website. CSN Chicago will air the awards live, as well.
