Brent Seabrook has been a big part of the Blackhawks' leadership for several years now. He¹s been a vocal leader in the room, has worn the 'A' when those normally wearing it were injured and will serve as the team¹s second alternate captain with the departure of Patrick Sharp.

And it looks like Seabrook could wear that 'A' in Chicago for some time to come.

A source said Seabrook could be reaching a new deal "soon" with the Blackhawks. Seabrook is entering the final year of his current deal, which carries a cap hit of $5.8 million. He won his third Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks last season; he had eight goals and 23 minutes in 82 regular-season games before recording seven goals and four assists in 23 postseason games.

Seabrook said on Thursday his agent has talked with Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman about a new deal.
