Bjoern Werner (DE), Florida St.
6-3 | 266 lbs.
42 tackles, 13 sacks, 13 TFL, 8 PD, FR, FF
Almost always gets a good jump off the snap. High level of awareness against both the pass and the run. Good athlete that causes a variety of problems for blockers. Has the ability to really get after the quarterback.
Still has room to grow technically. Could improve overall effectiveness with minor tweaks to his form during initial burst. With that said, it’s scary to think how much better Werner could become, considering his bulk of production at Florida State.
Fit for the Bears:
Werner, who has had an interesting journey from Germany to the NFL, would be a great addition to the front four in Chicago. No one knows how things will shape up at the defensive end position for the Bears and there are a ton of questions still unanswered. Will Israel Idonije be back? How will Shea McCllelin be utilized in the 2013 defense? Can Corey Wootton continue his development? How big of an impact will Turk McBride make? What does all of this mean? Possibly that the Bears should make Werner the 20th overall selection in the first round. Julius Peppers is not going to be around forever and Werner could provide an immediate impact, while also being a long-term solution.
