Geno Smith (QB), West Virginia
6-2 | 218 lbs.
4,205 YDS, 42 TD, 6 INT, 163.9 QBR | 66 CAR, 152 YDS, 2 TD
Has ideal size and frame that you look for in an NFL quarterback. Great touch on deep balls and fade routes with pinpoint accuracy. Makes good decisions in the pocket with a quick release. Can squeeze the ball into tight windows. Always keeps his feet moving and keeps his eyes on his receivers down field. Doesn't look to run much, but has the ability to pick up the first down with his feet. Very tough to bring down with great upper body strength. Team leader and improved each season while with the Mountaineers.
At times, holds the ball too long and gets tentative to run. Tends to fire a pass to his target in close range without putting much touch on it. With his size and athleticism, you'd expect him to pick up more yards on the ground. Doesn't show the greatest blitz recognition. Playing in a spread offense at West Virginia, will his skills translate to the next level? Possible one year wonder?
Fit for the Bears:
The chances of Geno Smith landing with the Bears is close to impossible. He's the consensus top quarterback in the 2013 Draft class and is expected to be a Top 5 pick. Unless Phil Emery decides to trade away the farm, the Bears have no shot. Expect Chicago to select a signal-caller at some point on Day 2 or Day 3, but that guy won't be the former West Virginia star.
