Datone Jones (DE), UCLA

6-4 | 283 lbs.

2012 Stats:

62 tackles, 19 TFL, 5.5 Sks, FF

Selected by:

Green Bay Packers (1st round, 26th overall)

Strengths:

Good build, size should play well at the next level. Long arms that will be advantageous in swatting down passes at the line of scrimmage. Has a variety of pass rush techniques at his disposal and uses his hands well. Has power to drive blockers into backfield. High effort guy and has the versatility to play defensive tackle. Has surprising flexibility and agility and may have some untapped potential coming off breakout season.

Weaknesses:

Does not get low enough when engaged with a blocker, struggling to fight for position and leverage. That can keep him off balance and NFL offensive lineman may get him on the ground easily. Does not have elite speed and struggles to disengage blocks. Too small for defensive tackle, but has experience playing there.

Fit for the Packers:

The Packers want to be a more physical team this year in the trenches and Jones certainly helps that effort. He projects as a 3-4 DE and will most likely find his way into the rotation early.
