Josh Boyd (DT), Mississippi State

6-3 | 310 lbs.

2012 Stats:

33 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks

Projection:

6th Round

Strengths:

Moves well for a 300-plus pound lineman. Displays his athleticism when changing direction and accelerating to the quarterback. Shows an above average ability to read an offense and attack the action. Shows flashes throughout the game of being a player teams have to game plan around because of his relentless pursuit. Threw up a position-best 32 reps on the bench press at the NFL Combine in February.

Weaknesses:

Some scouts say Boyd is too inconsistent at pressuring the pocket. Had a better junior season when he played next to current Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. Could improve his ability to break down while on the run.

Fit for the Packers:

The Packers have a solid starting defensive line at the moment but a little more depth wouldn't help. Unless he surprises in training camp, expect Boyd to remain on the sidelines for most of the year.
