The Blackhawks will host the struggling Blue Jackets tonight at the United Center. Catch all the action on Comcast SportsNet, beginning with Blackhawks Pregame Live at 5:30.
It will be a battle between the league's first and last place teams.
The Blackhawks have earned a record-breaking 14-0-3 start and have a good chance at expanding that record tonight. The Blue Jackets are heading to the Madhouse on Madison for the first time this season after hosting the Blackhawks on Jan. 26. Columbus (5-11-2) sits dead last in the NHL standings, earning just 12 points in 18 games played this year.
A quick glance at each team's statistics show just how significant the difference between each team's record is.
Defenseman Fedor Tyutin tops Columbus' charts with one goal and nine assists, compared to Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane who's leading his team with nine goals and 14 assists. Derick Brassard, Vinny Prospal and James Wisniewski follow Tyutin have earned a total of 28 points, while Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp have racked up a combined 43 points.
The Blackhawks have won 10 of their previous 11 matchups against the Blue Jackets, including four of their last five games while hosting Columbus. But none of this means the Blackhawks can take tonight's matchup lightly. They'll still have to show consistency throughout all four lines and take advantage of special teams play. But based on their history and records in 2013, the Blackhawks have a solid chance of continuing this season's success.
