At times during Wednesday's game, it looked like the Blackhawks' point streak may have been coming to an end.
The Hawks started the night off against Colorado down a man as Marian Hossa was a late scratch with an upper-body injury. The Avs were the first to get on the board and wound up holding a lead throughout the majority of the game. But despite losing Andrew Shaw and Patrick Sharp to upper-body injuries during the Wednesday's matchup, Daniel Carcillo's late-game goal led the Blackhawks to victory.
Now it's time for Round 2.
Tonight the Avalanche will have the home-ice advantage as they face off against the Blackhawks. The Hawks will be without Sharp tonight as he continues to recover from Wednesday's injury, but both Shaw and Hossa are expected to return to the ice. Brandon Bollig has been recalled from Rockford and has joined the team in Colorado.
The Avs will give one more shot at deflating the Blackhawks' confidence.
"We're preparing [for Friday] the same way," Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog said after Wednesday's matchup at the United Center. "We have the opportunity to get a second whack at breaking the streak, so we're looking forward to it.
"Every team that gets this opportunity wants to end the streak really badly. You want to be the team that breaks the NHL record streak... Might as well do it this time."
