Mediated sessions return between league, union

After a day of working separately with a federal mediator, the NHL and NHLPA are finally back in the same room together. With mediation, of course.

The league and players association got together in New York City on Saturday, a day after the two sides talked separately with federal mediator Scot Beckenbaugh for more than 13 hours on Friday. Reports out of New York say that there's optimism that a new collective bargaining agreement could be coming soon.

But there's always a catch. Keep in mind that players once again are voting to give the NHLPA's executive board the power to file a disclaimer of interest and dissolve the union.

That vote wrapped up at 6 p.m. ET., and it's expected that players vote to approve again.

Stay tuned, folks.
