The NHL is getting plenty of good reviews – and revenue – from its outdoor game idea. So much, apparently, that they’re reportedly expanding that to several outdoor games next season. And the Chicago Blackhawks, apparently, are involved in one of them.
TSN’s Darren Dreger reported tonight that the NHL will have a stadium series that features six outdoor games, beginning with the Detroit-Toronto game in the University of Michigan’s “Big House” on Jan 1. And on March 1, Dreger reported, the Blackhawks will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field.
The Blackhawks had no comment on the report.
The Blackhawks hosted the Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2009, losing to longtime Central Division rival Detroit 6-4 at Wrigley Field.
Blackhawks team president John McDonough had expressed interest in hosting another Winter Classic after the success of the first one.
