GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Already a star on your television screen, Adam Dunn hopes to land a bit role on the silver screen this summer.
The White Sox slugger hopes several scenes he filmed for the upcoming Matthew McConaughey movie “Dallas Buyers Club” make the final cut. Dunn plays a bartender and said his scenes, which were also filmed with Jared Leto and Steve Zahn, required 20 or so takes. Actress Jennifer Garner is also in the film, which doesn’t yet have an official release date per IMDB.com.
“It’s probably going to look pretty awesome,” Dunn said. “I haven’t seen the final product, so keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully I made it.”
Dunn got involved in the picture through friend and former Toronto Blue Jays farmhand Joe Newcomb, whose production company Truth Entertainment is behind the film.
Dunn’s scenes were filmed in January. He said he’s impressed by how the cast handles long days on the set. For his role, McConaughey lost 40 pounds for his role and weighed 130 pounds. The actors’ dedication to their craft has Dunn already ruling out a post-playing career.
“To see those guys in action, that was probably the coolest part of it,” Dunn said. “To see how intense, how in character they are 24-7. To be a good actor, I guess that’s what it takes, so I’ll never be a good actor.”
