Konerko, Quintana, Santiago could participate in WBC

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Paul Konerko could play for Team USA in next years World Baseball Classic while it appears Jake Peavy and Chris Sale wont.

As the WBC picks up steam -- manager Joe Torre addressed the media at the winter meetings on Monday -- potential rosters have begun to trickle out. A White Sox team source said Monday that Konerkos name was part of a first draft of the roster for Torres team.

White Sox prospect Andre Rienzos name has been included on Brazils roster while Jose Quintana and Hector Santiago could pitch for Colombia and Puerto Rico, respectively.

Asked for his thoughts on the inclusion of White Sox players in the WBC, which runs from March 2-19, general manager Rick Hahn admits its a difficult scenario from a team standpoint.

Its tough because you get conflicted, Hahn said. Youre wearing your White Sox hat and you want them under your watchful eye and wearing your industry hat and know this is a big event and has international appeal and you want to do what you can to support it. Im paid to wear a White Sox hat right now.
