Strengths

Although he went on the disabled list twice, plus-plus speed helped him to steal 56 of 71 bases last season in 111 games. Speed also allows him to cover lots of ground and play shallow. Has a solid arm. Walked 74 times between two stops and finished with a .367 on-base percentage.

Weaknesses

Switch-hitter struck out 143 times last season; team wants him to widen his stance and hopes for improved pitch recognition. Not much of a power threat as he hit four homers in 409 at-bats.

He said it

Goal for 2013: “I’d really like to improve just the whole learning about baseball and stuff, knowing the right situations and what to do in those situations. No matter what level you’re at there’s always room for improvement. I feel pretty good about (stolen bases), just a tiny thing in anticipation. But all in all I’m trying to get a lot more stolen bases than last year.”
