MIAMI—Bulls shooting guard Marco Belinelli was fined $15,000, the league announced Monday.
The fine was levied as punishment for an obscene gesture Belinelli made in the fourth quarter of the Bulls' Game 7 first-round win Saturday in Brooklyn.
"What do you want me to say? It’s the rule,” Belinelli said before Game 1 of the Bulls’ second-round series against the Heat. “[The NBA] called me [Sunday]. They asked me why I did that and I said, ‘I was so happy about the shot, so maybe I didn’t think too much.’ But that’s okay. I have something to think about, about Miami. I don’t want to think about that right now.”
Belinelli made the gesture, in front of the Nets bench to celebrate a three-point shot.
The gesture was made famous by former NBA point guard and current Washington Wizards assistant coach Sam Cassell.
