Jimmy Butler missed Saturday night’s 103-97 Bulls’ win over the Bobcats at the United Center due to a left-thigh injury that the team’s starting shooting guard suffered in Friday’s victory at Milwaukee.

“I just couldn’t move. Being a defensive-minded player, I’ve got to be able to chase guys off of screens, try to get out into the open floor and I just feel like I wouldn’t have been able to give it my all tonight,” the third-year swingman explained. “Set shooting, that’s easy. But when you’ve got to get it off the move and elevate into your shot, I couldn’t really get that done.”

Butler was visibly hobbled in the fourth quarter of the Bulls’ win over the Bucks, so it was no surprise that he didn’t suit up against Charlotte.

“He tried to go. He did his shooting and he went through the walk-through, and then when he did some running, it wasn’t quite comfortable,” Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said. “We’ll see where he is tomorrow.”

Butler was optimistic about his status for the Bulls’ next game, Monday night against Washington at the United Center. After a day off Sunday, the Marquette product thinks he’ll play against the Wizards.

“Oh yeah, I’m hoping to be — I know I’m going to be, actually,” he said. “I’m not going to let myself sit out again, so you can look forward to me on Monday.”
