Report: Bears sign former Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton

The Bears' offense added a weapon at receiver, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapaport

The Bears agreed to terms with former Steeler Markus Wheaton Thursday evening. Although the Mike Glennon deal is not official yet, bringing in Wheaton gives the Bears' new quarterback another option out wide. It also softens the blow from losing Pro-Bowler Alshon Jeffery to the Eagles earlier in the afternoon.

Wheaton, 26, has racked up 107 receptions, 1,508 yards and eight touchdowns during his four-year NFL career. His best season came in 2015, when he caught 44 passes for 749 yards and five scores.

Last year, Wheaton's year ended prematurely with a shoulder injury that forced him to miss 13 games. In the three games Wheaton did play, he reeled in four passes and one touchdown.

By bringing in another receiver, the Bears' receiving core gains some much needed depth. Wheaton will join Cam Meredith and, if he can stay healthy, Kevin White as top targets heading into the 2017 season.
