Blackhawks updates: Anisimov playing, Toews still out vs. Devils

Artem Anisimov will play but Jonathan Toews will miss his fourth consecutive game when the Blackhawks host the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.

Toews did not skate again on Thursday. Coach Joel Quenneville said Toews could skate on Friday or Saturday but he added that Toews is doubtful to play on Saturday, when the Blackhawks face the Philadelphia Flyers.

Anisimov left Tuesday’s game after blocking a Duncan Keith shot off the inside of his right foot. But he said he felt better on Wednesday and was part of Thursday morning’s skate.

“I skated this morning, no problem,” Anisimov said. “Actually when the puck hit me, I thought it was going to be worse. But it’s not, so I’m glad. I’m happy.”

Corey Crawford will start vs. the Devils.

Trevor van Riemsdyk is still skating but will not play against the Devils. Quenneville said van Riemsdyk could play vs. Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Quenneville’s second cousin, John, will make his NHL debut for the Devils tonight. John was recalled on Wednesday from Albany, where he has 17 points in 19 games.

“It means a lot,” John Quenneville said following the Devils’ skate. “That’s been my dream, ever since I was a kid. For it to come true is amazing to me, my family members, all my friends and teammates I played with growing up. I’m excited.”
