New Bulls guard Michael Carter-Williams won't wear Derrick Rose's old number after all

Michael Carter-Williams wanted to wear No. 1 with his new team. But apparently there's a little too much recent history involved with that number.

When Carter-Williams, who the Bulls acquired in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks, showed up to the United Center on Monday, he told reporters he would be wearing No.1, a jersey number he wore when he played at Syracuse.

The first thing that entered everyone's mind, of course, was that No. 1 belonged to former Bulls guard Derrick Rose for the past eight seasons.

But the 2014 Rookie of the Year wasn't trying to make any comment regarding the 2009 Rookie of the Year.

Apparently between the pregame media session and after the Bulls lost to the Hornets in Monday's preseason tilt, Carter-Williams had a change of heart — or at least he was convinced to, saying he didn't want to cause any controversy with his jersey choice.

So what's next? Will fans of Toni Kukoc and Ben Gordon start asking Carter-Williams to drop No. 7?
