Cubs, Sox reportedly in on Cuban pitcher

While Cuban outfielders Yoenis Cespedes and Jorge Soler are demanding headlines, another Cuban -- pitcher Gerardo Concepcion -- may be the first to sign.

The 18-year-old lefty was declared a free agent Wednesday and can negotiate a contract with any of the MLB teams.

The Cubs and White Sox are reported to have interest, according to Enrique Rojas from ESPNdeportesLosAngeles.com.

Concepcion was named the rookie of the year last season in the Cuban Serie Nacional, the country's top amateur league. He compiled a 3.36 ERA and 10-3 record in 21 games (16 starts). He defected from Cuba last summer during the same tournament Aroldis Chapman defected from in 2009.
