Prior to the start of Sunday's game against the Phillies, the Cubs activated outfielder Ryan Sweeney and infielder Luis Valbuena off the disabled list and recalled pitcher Alberto Cabrera from Triple-A Iowa. Right-hander Eduardo Sanchez was designated for assignment.
All three players will be available this afternoon as the Cubs host Philadelphia in their series finale at 1:20.
Sweeney was placed on the 60-day DL after suffering from a fractured rib back on June 29 in a game against Seattle. He is batting .295 this season with four home runs and 15 RBI in 44 games with the Cubs and played in five rehab games with the Kane County Cougars.
Valbuena is making his return from the 15-day DL after suffering from a right oblique strain. The 27-year-old is batting .225 with nine home runs and 31 RBI in 89 games with the North Siders this year.
After splitting this season between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, Cabrera will be returning for his second season with the Cubs. He combined to go 10-6 with a 3.79 ERA in 33 appearances with the Cubs.
