The Cubs avoided arbitration with another player Wednesday by agreeing to terms on a one-year deal worth $2 million with outfielder Justin Ruggiano.

The Cubs traded outfielder Brian Bogusevic for Ruggiano in early December and plan to utilize the 31-year-old veteran as the right-handed half of an outfield platoon.

Ruggiano can play all three outfield positions and has shown flashes of that coveted power-speed combo, clubbing 31 homers and stealing 29 bases over the last two seasons with the Miami Marlins.

The Texas A&M product hit just .222 in 2013, but that number was weighed down by a historic 0-for-42 stretch in the middle of the season.

Ruggiano has a career .834 OPS against left-handed pitchers.
