Cubs Honda Road Ahead: Reunions out west

Share

CSN's David Kaplan and Cubs Insider Patrick Mooney are getting you ready for what's next with this week's Cubs Road Ahead, presented by Chicagoland and NW Indiana Honda Dealers.

The Cubs won six of seven on their most recent home stand, and now they'll try to carry that momentum as they head out west for a six-game road trip. Joe Maddon's group will make stops in San Diego and Arizona, with the former location acting as a homecoming of sorts for two of the team's brightest young stars.

Less than two years ago Kris Bryant was tearing things up in the West Coast Conference at the University of San Diego, earning the 2013 Golden Spikes Award after hitting .329 with 31 homers and 62 RBIs as a consensus All-American.

And though his memories weren't great one there, Anthony Rizzo will remember San Diego as the place where he first began his MLB career. After being drafted by the Red Sox in 2007, Rizzo was traded to the Padres in 2010 and made his debut a year later in 2011. Rizzo hit .141 with one homer and nine RBIs in 49 games, but things have turned around for him ever since his trade to the Cubs, to say the least.

See what Mooney had to say about what the Cubs must do to prove they can win on the road out west in the video above.
