New York Yankee Curtis Granderson is giving back to the University of Illinois at Chicago, and he's giving back in a big way.
The Associated Press reported that Granderson and University of Illinois trustees have reached a deal in which Granderson will donate $5 million to his alma mater. This equates to exactly one-third of Granderson's $15 million salary for the 2013 season. The donation will be used to fund the $7 million baseball stadium, which will be named Curtis Granderson Stadium and will serve as the new home for the UIC flames.
Granderson was drafted in 2002 out of the University of Illinois at Chicago. He currently plays center fielder for the New York Yankees, but will become a free agent at the end of this season.
