CTL breaks down the Illini's recent successes
After helping lead the Illini to two victories over two top-20 opponents last week, D.J. Richardson has been named a Big Ten Player of the Week along with Wisconsin’s Ben Brust. Between the two games, Richardson averaged 18.0 points on 50.0 percent shooting and managed 2.5 steals.
In the win over No. 1 Indiana, Richardson contributed a game-high 23 points -- including an 8-0 run in the final three minutes. Against Minnesota, the guard scored 13 points, shot 60 percent from three-point range and tallied three rebounds, two assists and two steals. This is Richardson’s first time receiving the Big Ten Player of the Week honor.
Brust, a product of Mundelein, Ill., averaged 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in a pair of overtime contests against Iowa and Michigan over the weekend. It is Brust’s first career Big Ten Player of the Week nomination.
