Could Notre Dame lose both its coordinators to head coaching jobs?
According to Ralph Russo of the Associated Press, Irish defensive coordinator Bob Diaco is among the candidates for the head coaching position at UConn. The other names Russo listed: UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, Ball State coach Pete Lembo and Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman.
Diaco has ties to the northeast and was a candidate for the Boston College job last year, so it's not surprising that his name is connected to the UConn job. Still, UConn isn't a prestigious job — the AAC loses almost all of its power after this season and UConn isn't exactly in fertile recruiting territory.
Perhaps Diaco would want to hold out for a better job, though given how Notre Dame's defense took a step back this season a better gig may not be out there.
Notre Dame lost offensive coordinator Chuck Martin to the Miami (Ohio) head coaching job earlier this week.
"One of the things at Notre Dame is I want my coordinators to have an opportunity for leadership positions," coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday in relation to Martin taking the Miami job. "I do not endorse lateral moves for my coordinators, but if they have a chance to lead a program I'm excited for them."
