A year after throttling Notre Dame in the BCS Championship, Alabama looked mortal: Trevor Knight threw for 348 yards and the Tide committed four turnovers in a stunning 45-31 loss to Oklahoma Thursday night in the Sugar Bowl.
While shocked-Katherine-Webb shots on the TV broadcast provided a little comic relief, former Notre Dame nose guard Louis Nix offered the best thing to come out of Thursday night's game:
If only Bama played like this last year.— lOUIS NIX III (@1IrishChocolate) January 3, 2014
Alabama beat Notre Dame 42-14 last year in a game that never was close. Conversely, Alabama -- sans freshman running back Derrick Henry, who rushed for 100 yards and had a 61-yard touchdown reception -- looked absolutely awful on Thursday, at least by its standards. The Tide played a near-perfect game against an overmatched Irish team last year in Miami Gardens, but hardly looked like the well-oiled, diabolical Nick Saban-created machine against Oklahoma.
And for Oklahoma, the 14-point win is the same margin of victory as the Sooners had over Notre Dame back in September (albeit with Blake Bell at quarterback).
Nix also offered another comment on the sad state of Alabama fans right now:
Bama fans be like….WAR EAGLE— lOUIS NIX III (@1IrishChocolate) January 3, 2014
We can only hope Nix live-tweets Friday's Paul Finebaum show, which certainly will feature measured and reasonable commentary from Alabama fans.
