Injury Report: ARob in concussion protocol, Whitehair day-to-day

The Bears may be without two of their best offensive players on Sunday, as both Allen Robinson and Cody Whitehair's chances of suiting up against the Saints is in question. Matt Nagy announced on Wednesday that Robinson suffered a concussion on Monday night against the Rams and is still in protocol, while Whitehair's dealing with a calf injury.

"It’s like a lot of these other teams when they lose a star player on any side of the ball," Nagy said. "It’s always gonna hurt you. Because you look at it from the defensive perspective, there’s a lot of games that we go into where these teams gotta change their game plan as to how they’re gonna play against him. And so, from our end, when we’re talking about scheming, we have to make sure that we’re scheming for both sides of it."

Of the two, Robinson's status – which Nagy said is "out of our hands" – seems to be more up in the air. The team considers the Whitehair day-to-day, and while they're cautiously optimistic that this isn't something which will keep him out longterm, Nagy couldn't answer if he'd be ready to go against New Orleans.

"I hope he’s able to go this week," he said. "But with where he’s at, I don’t know that answer. And I think it’s probably more day-to-day right now, listening to know what Andre [Tucker] says. I’m no health expert with him.

"This guy has played all these snaps and has so much experience. So when you see a guy go through what he went through on Monday night, it’s always challenging. But I mean it’s one of those deals, again, where if he’s out of this game, then Sam [Mustipher] has to be ready to go."

If Whitehair can't play, the Bears will start Mustipher, an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame who signed with the Bears in 2019. Notably, he was in the same 2014 Fighting Irish class as Alex Bars, the Bears' current backup left guard.

"The one thing with Sam that we all know from Day One since he was here is he's extremely bright," Nagy said. "He really sees the field well in regards to fronts and linebackers. There's gonna be times where you get beat or you miss something. The best of the best do that."
