CSNChicago.com is your top destination on the road to the 2014 high school football season. CSN preps contributor “Edgy” Tim O’Halloran will take a look at 100 teams in 100 days, counting down to the opening night kickoff on August 29th.
School: Brother Rice
Head coach: Brian Badke
Assistant Coaches: Bill McKeon, Randy Johnson, Anthony Kropp, Bill Hardy, Jimmy Flynn, Lance Kenzinger, Mike Kenzinger, Dan Ward
Biggest storyline in 2014: Will last season's youth movement pay off starting this fall? Brother Rice welcomes back 14 starters.
Name to watch: Senior RB Marcus Jones (5-foot-8, 185 pounds) has speed and runs with authority. Jones is a serious sleeper recruit at this stage — expect more recruiting looks to follow this summer and fall.
Biggest Hole To Fill: The Crusaders play easily one of the toughest schedules in the state. Can they stay healthy at key spots and develop enough depth to weather the storm? Depth is traditionally one of the biggest factors in surviving the Chicago Catholic League Blue conference.
EDGY's Early Take: The Crusaders — much like the rest of the CCL Blue — can make a serious case to finish either first or last in 2014. The experience and talent level is there. It's anyone's race this season and Brother Rice has the look of a team that's ready to compete.
