Several of the top underclassmen football prospects took part in the 4th annual Core 6 Athletes Showcase camp, held Monday at the Westmont Yard Sports complex in Westmont.
The Showcase was split into two separate sessions with the morning session featuring prospects from the 2016 and 2017 classes and the afternoon featured players from the 2015 class.
Who stood out?
From the underclassmen session, Brother Rice freshman wide receiver Ricky Smalling (6-foot-0, 170 pounds) was named the MVP of the session and showed that he was hands-down the most impressive performer the entire session. Other names to watch included Providence Catholic 2017 WR Martez Malone, along with Nazareth Academy 2016 WR/DB Julian Love, Providence Catholic 2017 LB Ricky Warfield and Carmel 2016 TE/LB Noah Turner.

The Class of 2015 session had great numbers and several standout performances. Illinois prospects who made a strong impression included junior RB Marcus Jones, Lemont WR Flynn Nagel, plus Montini Catholic WR Leon Thornton III and Maroa-Forsyth OLB Jack Hockaday. Fenwick defensive back Aaron Garland also had a very solid day along with Decatur MacArthur DB Shawntrez Spates and Champaign Centennial QB Jimmy Fitzgerald.
One of the biggest surprises was the performance of Montini Catholic quarterback Chuck Norgle, who sat behind senior Alex Wills last season was easily one of the top quarterbacks at the PM session. Nazareth Academy OT Jack Shutack was named as the offensive linemen MVP.
Also in attendance was Illinois head coach Tim Beckman. Beckman was watching his son 2016 QB Patrick Beckman perform at the event, which is allowed via NCAA recruiting rules.
