Two days after winning its second consecutive Class 3A state championship, Morgan Park head coach Nick Irvin confirmed to CSNChicago.com on Monday that talented junior guard Kain Harris is transferring from the school.
The 6-foot-4 Harris had a strong early part of the season, including nine three-pointers in a win over Maine South in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, but fell from the Mustangs' starting lineup as he struggled later in the season.
Morgan Park loses senior guard Torry Johnson next season, but sophomores Charlie Moore, Jamal Burton and Jarrin Randall all return for Morgan Park at guard.
Although there is rampant speculation that Harris will transfer to Catholic League powerhouse St. Rita, including a report from the Chicago Sun-Times, there has been no official word that information is true.
St. Rita High School released a tweet on Monday that doesn't allude directly to Harris, but addresses a potential transfer student.
Harris played 14 minutes off the bench and scored five points, grabbed two rebounds and picked up a steal in Morgan Park's 59-49 win over Lincoln in Saturday's Class 3A title game.
The junior told CSNChicago.com in December that he had scholarship offers from Bradley, Creighton, Kansas State, Northern Illinois and South Carolina while he claims interest from DePaul, Illinois, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Tennessee.
A top-10 prospect in the 2015 class, Harris is a tremendous athlete and streaky perimeter shooter that is at his best in the open floor.
