Oak Park-River Forest held off Lincoln-Way East, 49-34, on Friday night as strong quarterback play propelled both top-25 teams.
The No. 22 Huskies were led by Northwestern-bound quarterback Lloyd Yates as he went 7-for-13 for 142 yards passing while also running 18 times for 168 yards. Yates accounted for five touchdowns on the evening, as he passed for three and ran in the other two.
The No. 13 Griffins tried to stay in the game behind quarterback Mike Weller. Weller was 32-of-47 for 333 yards and two touchdowns, but he also had two interceptions and the Lincoln-Way East defense couldn't contain Yates. Oak Park-River Forest only led 28-21 at halftime but held on for victory.
The Huskies will face Leyden next week while the Griffins travel to Lincoln-Way Central.
