A great doubleheader of high school hoops is on tap Saturday night, when the City/Suburban Shootout begins at 6:30 p.m. at Niles West High School. This event is typically one of the premier high school showcases of the season in the Chicagoland area, and this year is certainly no different.

In the opening contest, No. 3 Marian Catholic (21-2) will face No. 12 Lake Forest (20-4) as Tyler Ulis and the Spartans look to get past junior forward Evan Boudreaux and Lake Forest.

Marian Catholic and Lake Forest both share a loss to Stevenson on the year, and the Scouts will face the Patriots on Friday night in a North Suburban Lake contest, while Marian Catholic has a tough East Suburban Catholic Conference contest against Carmel.

The Spartans should be the favorite to handle Lake Forest, but they've had trouble stopping big-time interior players like Boudreaux, and they need to keep the 6-foot-7 junior off of the glass in order to win.

The second game at 8:30 p.m. is a rematch of last season's Class 4A state championship game as No. 2 Stevenson (23-1) takes on No. 8 Simeon (18-5). The Patriots will look for revenge against Simeon after last season's title loss, and the Wolverines will look to bounce back after losing to Curie in the Public League Playoff quarterfinals.

Simeon's length and athleticism could give Stevenson problems, but Jalen Brunson, Connor Cashaw and Matt Johnson are experienced and prepared. Both of these teams have defeated Morgan Park this season, though the Wolverines split with the Mustangs in Red-South play.

Simeon will be prepared for Stevenson after a weeklong layoff while Stevenson has a game with Lake Forest the night before.
