Seem familiar?

Here is just a sampling of some great Round 2 playoff games to watch this weekend featuring teams that are very familiar to each other.

Class 8A

EDGY'S Take: Stevenson at Glenbard North- so does this game seem familiar Patriot and Panther fans? Of course it does since these two programs played at Glenbard North at the exact same point of the state playoffs a year ago. Glenbard North won that 2012 Class 8A game 23-14 and I'm expecting about the same type of close showdown. Stevenson has won 8 straight games and the Patriots offense led by junior QB Willie Bourbon is a key. Glenbard North will give the football early and often to Northwestern verbal commit RB Justin Jackson and will dare the Stevenson defense to slow him down.

Class 7A

EDGY'S Take: St. Rita vs Mount Carmel @ Gately Stadium- The Guns and Hoses game? You could hear the outcry from the South Side loud and clear on pairing night when this potential CCL Blue showdown was shown. St. Rita lost a Week 24-3 decision to the Caravan as the Mustangs offense just never was able to get much going. Redemption time perhaps for the Mustangs? Mount Carmel will need to come ready to play and having a healed up Matt Domer back for the Caravan is a major plus. St. Rita will need a big game from Iowa State commit QB Tommy Mister along with the Mustangs offensive line. Expect a huge crowd at Gately on Friday night.

Class 6A

EDGY'S Take: Argo at Richards- A rematch of two South Suburban Red teams here. Argo and veteran head coach Jim Innis has been one of the best stories of the 2013 season. Argo lost to Richards 27-0 back in Week 8 and the Argonauts will need to get standout QB Jason Noel going here. Richards blew out Yorkville last Saturday 44-0 and Yorkville Hall of Fame head coach Karl Hoinkes said of Richards junior QB Hasan Muhammed-Rogers, "He might throw one of the best deep balls I've ever seen in my coaching career."

Class 5A

EDGY'S Take: Montini Catholic at Marian Central Catholic- no surprise that these two Suburban Christian Blue rivals playoff path crosses since it seems they cross yearly. Montini Catholic beat Marian Central Catholic 40-35 back in Week 7 and I fully expect another close game. Montini Catholic, who is aiming for it's fifth straight Class 5A state title in 2013 have beaten the Hurricanes in the post-season in each of those four straight state title runs. Is Marian Central Catholic due? The Hurricanes will throw everything at the Broncos this week I'm willing to bet.
