DJ Durkin is going bowling in his first season at Maryland.

The Terps scored a palindromic 31-13 win over Rutgers on Saturday to win for the sixth time this season and earn bowl eligibility.

Maryland wasted no time in this one, scoring on the second play from scrimmage on a 46-yard run by Kenneth Goins Jr. And another big play came later in the first quarter, when Teldrick Morgan returned a Rutgers punt 83 yards for a touchdown to make it a two-score game.

A missed Maryland field-goal try allowed Rutgers to go 72 yards in 15 plays, capping that scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown run by Robert Martin. But a 28-yard touchdown run by Tyrrell Pigrome put the Terps back up on the Knights by a pair of scores before halftime.

The teams traded third-quarter touchdowns, Rutgers striking first on a 28-yard touchdown carry by Justin Goodwin — though the extra point was blocked — and Maryland responding with a short Andrew Stefanelli touchdown run not long after a big 47-yard run by Ty Johnson.

Maryland added a fourth-quarter field goal to make it a 31-13 final.

The Terps gained 414 total yards on the afternoon, with the Knights amassing 350. Rutgers picked up 203 of its yards through the air, while Maryland did the majority of its damage on the ground, rushing for 318 yards.

Johnson rushed for 168 yards for Maryland, with Goins adding 81 and his long touchdown rush. Gio Rescigno passed for 203 yards for Rutgers.

The win sent the Terps to 6-6 on the season and 3-6 in the conference. Maryland will head to a bowl game in its first season under Durkin after missing a bowl game in Randy Edsall's final season a year ago.

Rutgers finished up Chris Ash's first season at 2-10 overall and 0-9 in the Big Ten. The Knights lost their last nine games and scored 13 points or fewer in every game but four.
