Lake Forest Academy senior three-star ranked defensive end recruit Thomas Schaffer (6-foot-7, 260 pounds) ended his recruiting process tonight and gave Stanford his verbal commitment.

Schaffer, who had narrowed down his list of favorites to Stanford, Oregon and Wisconsin decided tonight that he was ready to make his college choice.

"I talked things over with my brother, my family and my coaches and they agree that Stanford is a great place for me," Schaffer said.  "I had a great official visit to Stanford and that was a big part of my decision. Just the overall fit at Stanford was too hard for me to pass up."

"I really had a great experience on all three official visits and all three are great schools," Schaffer said. "Stanford just felt right and was the right fit. From the great academics at Stanford to socially to football, it just all fit me really well."

Schaffer also admitted that he was waiting to hear from Stanford admissions before making his final college choice.

"I waited on my college choice until I had an answer from Stanford admissions. I just didn't feel that I wanted to make a final decision unless I knew for sure that I would be able to get into Stanford. Once I found out that I cleared admissions that was another big factor for me."

Schaffer will join his former Lake Forest Academy teammate Wesley Annan who is a freshman defensive tackle for the Cardinal.
