If you were given $96,000 to buy anything in the world during this pandemic you'd buy a mint condition Michael Jordan rookie card, right?
Well, one unknown buyer in Thursday night's Heritage Auction just made that purchase.
Heritage sold an additional copy of the card (a 1986-87 Fleer graded PSA 10) at a record-breaking $51,600 just 19 days ago. The latest winning bid has now shattered that record, making it an 86 percent increase over the previous high.
Since ESPN released the Jordan 10-part documentary "The Last Dance" in April, sports card dealers noticed prices for Jordan cards have skyrocketed in value.

This particular card was issued two years after Jordan's NBA debut season and features him in his iconic Air Jordan pose (going in for a slam) and wearing a red Bulls uniform. It's regarded as his rookie card because it was produced on a larger scale. It is Jordan's most famous card to date and it's one of the hottest cards to own out of all sports in the card-collecting hobby.

According to SportsCollectorsDaily.com, the going rate for a PSA 10 grade of this card was less than half of $51,600 just a year ago.
Tell your mom not to throw this card away if you actually own it! Copies of this card — even if they're not a perfectly graded 10 — are still worth thousands of dollars. A 9.5 graded card by Beckett is currently up for $39,999 on eBay. A PSA 8 graded card is going for $6,950.
