Mundelein improved to 6-0 on the season, racing past visiting Lake Forest 67-56 on Friday in a North Suburban Lake opener.Junior guard Robert Knar scored 19 points (9-of-16 from the field, 1-of-4 from three-point range) and had 10 assists for the winners, who face Lake Zurich on Tuesday and then will host Warren next Friday.Sean OBrien (12 points, nine rebounds, three steals) and Chino Ebube (10 points, four blocks) also played well for the winners.Lake Forest (3-2) got 19 points from Thomas Durrett and 12 points off the bench from Ben Simpson.Scout standouts John Hayes (four points) and Carter Bass (six points)were shut down, but freshman center Evan Boudreau had three points and 10 rebounds. Its a big win for us, said OBrien. Losing Ryan (Sawvell, the teams best player last year who is now playing at Evansville), nobody really knew how wed be. Thats a good team we beat tonight.I thought we played really hard and we set a good tone for the rest of the conference season.Mundeleins coach, Richard Knar, praised the play of OBrien and his sonRobert.I thought Robert did his best job of the year finding other people and getting into the lane, the coach said. He wasnt just relying on jump shots.Sean did a really nice job all-around, defensively and rebounding. Those two guys did a nice job calming things down down the stretch.Lake Forest got within 40-34 in the third quarter, but Knar had the next seven points as part of a 13-2 run that sealed the deal.We didnt stick to our game plan, said Scouts coach Phil LaScala. Give Mundelein credit. They do a good job getting you out of it.They play at a really fast pace and they get you to hurry. We got impatient and they took advantage of it.Lake Forest will face Carmel (1-3) on Saturday in Mundelein.
