Hanging in Fremds gym was a makeshift sign proclaiming, Welcome to the loudest gym in the MSL West,

Schaumburg silenced the home crowd Friday night, however, defeating the Vikings 42-37 in a Mid-Suburban West thriller.

Neither team held a lead larger than six points in the second half. After a flurry of fouls by both the Saxons and Vikings, Schaumburg led 40-37 with less than 10 seconds remaining.

Saxons forward Jimmy Lundquist went to the foul line for a one-and-one and made both free throws to clinch the conference victory for Schaumburg (17-5, 7-1).

Lundquist finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

I just knew what I had to do, and got the job done, said Lundquist.

The boys played well, and I was proud with the way they played with a large crowd working against them, said Schaumburg coach Matt Walsh.

Schaumburg jumped out to a 13-0 lead, capitalizing on four Viking turnovers. Fremd (13-9, 5-3) finally got on the board with 1:16 left in the first quarter on a basket by Adam Gorecki.

The Saxons went on to miss eight consecutive shots, helping Fremd to go on a 13-2 run before the half. But Schaumburg still held a 17-13 halftime lead.

Schaumburgs Christian Spandiary and Michael Mallet, who finished with 10 and nine points respectively, traded blows with Fremds Garrett Peters and Gorecki, making it a 26-23 game going into the fourth quarter.

Peters finished with 10 points for the Vikings, while Gorecki had 11 points and nine rebounds.
