Northwestern has never made it to the NCAA Tournament, and while one player won't change their fortunes, the team did get a massive boost when 2013 point guard Jaren Sina committed to the Wildcats yesterday.
The 6-foot-2 point guard from Lake Hopatcong, N.J. is ranked No. 82 overall by Scout.com, and the No. 18 point guard in the class.
Sina chose Northwestern over Alabama, and he had additional offers from Cincinnati, Memphis, Miami (FL), Rutgers, St. John's and Virginia, according to Scout.com.
Wildcats head coach Bill Carmody had the inside track on Sina after he hired former Rutgers coach Fred Hill to his staff in 2011.
While Hill was with the Scarlet Knights, he was the first to offer Sina, then a freshman at Gill St. Bernard's School, a scholarship.
They have been recruiting me extra hard, Sina told Evan Daniels of Scout.com. Coach Carmody and them have been around this last year. I just know where I want to be and I dont want to wait until after July if I know where I want to go."
Sina originally committed to Alabama but de-committed last year, keeping the Crimson Tide on his shortlist of schools.
An impressive outside shooter, Sina could come in right away and help the Wildcats, who attempted 23 3-pointers per game last year, most in the Big Ten.
