Fantasy Football Start/Sit: Week 3

Share

It certainly seems as if the injury bug has affected every single fantasy owner out there.

After a wild Week 2 that saw a slew of impact players go down to injury, we're all feeling a little like Jon Snow right now:

With the injuries and the way the NFL has transformed into a pass-first (and pass-second and pass-third) league, we wondered: Are there any running backs we can trust right now?

With that, let's move on to our Week 3 Start/Sit options.

As always, Liam Neeson wishes you luck:

START

Kirk Cousins, QB, WAS (@ NYG) - Cousins thrives on silencing doubters and I'm betting he will do so again this week after catching some flak from a slow start to the season. (Tony Andracki)

Eric Decker, WR, NYJ (@ KC) - You can't overvalue Decker's consistency, with a touchdown in six straight games and at least 10 PPR points in 18 straight games. If Brandon Marshall can't go or is limited, Decker could receive even more looks and as is, may be a WR1 this week. (Andracki)

Melvin Gordon, RB, SD (@IND) - It's been an awakening for the second-year running back. After going scoreless in 2015, Gordon has already rushed for three touchdowns this season. With Danny Woodhead now out of the picture due to a season-ending injury, Gordon is going to eat. Indy's defense has already allowed 71 fantasy points to opposing running backs in 2016 which is a good omen for Gordon's prospects this weekend. (Scott Krinch)

Mark Ingram, RB, NO (vs. ATL) - Ingram hasn't gotten out to a great start this season, either, but he's clearly the bellcow still in Nawlins. His breakout game is coming, and why not this week against a Falcons defense that allows more than 25 points per game to opposing RBs? (Andracki)

Marvin Jones, WR, DET (@ GB) - Jones is on pace for 146 receptions and 236 targets. I'm no math major, but that's an insane amount of targets. Matt Stafford has developed quite the chemistry with the Lions' replacement for Calvin Johnson. Expect a potential shootout in Green Bay this weekend as Jim Bob Cooter's offense will try to go score-for-score with the Packers. (Krinch)

Marcus Mariota, QB, TEN (vs. OAK) - I like consistency from the quarterback position and Mariota has been the model of one in 2016. Mariota has equaled 13 fantasy points in both games this season, and he's averaging 37 passes per game. As long as Mariota continues to find his young receivers and stud tight end Delanie Walker, I like his chances of delivering passable fantasy performances, especially against a miserable, thus far, Raiders secondary in Week 3. (Krinch)

Dak Prescott, QB, DAL (vs. CHI) - In two games this season, Prescott has thrown for a combined 519 yards with a rushing touchdown, but he has yet to throw for one. Brock Osweiler and Carson Wentz threw two games against the Bears this season, so Prescott shouldn't have a problem. (Paul Roumeliotis)

Coby Fleener, TE, NO (vs. ATL) - New haircut, new Fleener? The Saints aren't paying the 28-year-old tight end $36 million for nothing. Fleener is off to a slow start through two games with Drew Brees, but what better game to break out than his team's home opener on prime time television? Fleener received eight targets last week, which doubled from Week 1. The looks are there, and he should capitalize on Monday night. (Roumeliotis)

SIT

DeSean Jackson, WR, WSH (@ NYG) - I tend to stay away from "Boom or Bust" fantasy players, and that's exactly what Jackson has been in his career. You never know if you're going to see 8-receptions, 100-yards and a touchdown or 3-receptions, 30-yards and zero touchdowns next to his name in the box score. In addition to Jackson's inconsistent play, his matchup against a stingy Giants secondary makes this decision an easy one for me. (Krinch)

LeSean McCoy, RB, BUF (vs. ARI) - McCoy is also up there in terms of fantasy consistency, but the Cardinals have allowed only 154 rushing yards in two games and a Top 5 defense against opposing RBs. With offensive coordinator Greg Roman fired, all that turnover could lead to a rough week for Bills offense, meaning McCoy carries more risk than normal in Week 3. (Andracki)

Latavius Murray, RB, OAK (@ TEN) - The two touchdowns are enticing, but Murray's season has been illusion. Last week, Murray's eight carries were only one more than backup running back DeAndre Washington (7) and two more than third-string running back Jalen Richard (6). Right now, Murray's fantasy value relies on getting into the end zone, and I don't see him doing it against a defense that hasn't allowed a rushing score in 2016. (Krinch)

Carson Wentz, QB, PHI (vs. PIT) - Wentz has been impressive so far, but he will have some bumps in the road and those could well come this week against a Pittsburgh defense that has allowed just one TD through the air thus far. (Andracki)

Jameis Winston, QB, TB (vs. LA) - Will the real Winston please stand up? Winston notched 26 fantasy points in Week 1, and followed that up with a giant goose egg in Week 2. It won't get any easier in Week 3 when Winston faces off with a defense which has only allowed one passing touchdown through two games. (Krinch)

Tyrell Williams, WR, SD (@ IND) - How 'bout that Colts defense? They've been far better than anybody anticipated, not surrendering a TD to an opposing WR yet. Williams is a total boom-or-bust play and I'm betting he doesn't "boom" this week. (Andracki)

Sam Bradford, QB, MIN (@ CAR) - Bradford had an incredible game against the Packers last week in his Vikings debut at their new stadium. But this week might be a little different. With the loss of Adrian Peterson — his former college teammate, the Vikings may have to rely on Bradford more than they had hoped in Carolina. (Paul Roumeliotis)

Jeremy Langford, RB, CHI (@ DAL) - Langford's production this season has been subpar to say the least, despite rushing for two touchdowns. He's combined for 28 carries and 85 yards in two games. If Langford continues to struggle, John Fox could turn to Jordan Howard — who's been getting more reps in practice — with Ka'Deem Carey doubtful. (Paul Roumeliotis)
