White Sox pitcher Chris Sale has been excluded from a top-three finish for the American League Cy Young award.

Sale, who went 11-14 with a 3.07 ERA and 226 strikeouts in 214 1/3 innings, wasn't among the three finalists for the award identified on Tuesday night. Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer, Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish and Seattle Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma are up for the award.

Sale's wins above replacement of 6.9 ranked second among AL pitchers behind only Iwakuma (7.0).

He also finished fifth in the AL with an adjusted ERA of 140. Darvish and Scherzer finished second and third in the category, respectively.

Sale tied for the AL lead with four complete games and ranked third in strikeouts behind Darvish and Scherzer.
